Comparing versions

Once at least two versions of a calculation exist, one version can be compared to a second version.  This comparison shows the rows and column headers as in non-comparison mode but shows additional columns for each three versions: the base version, the compare version, and a app-generated version referred to as the "Variance" version.

Switching to compare mode

To switch to compare mode, while viewing the calculator, follow these steps:

  1. Click the Version Selector to open the dropdown menu.
  2. Select a version in the Compare With section on the right side of the Version Selector menu.
  3. Once a compare version is selected, the calculator will display the version comparison.

Note: If you want to toggle the base version and compare version, click the "opposite arrows" button located between the Select Version and the Compare With sections.

Understanding the Variance version

The Variance version shows the differences between the two versions being compared.  The difference displayed depends on the column type:

Amount - For amount column types, the difference between the base version and the compare version is displayed.  For example, if the base version has an amount of 100 and the compare version has an amount of 80, the Variance version will display 20 (100 - 80 = 20).

Quantity - For quantity column types, the quantity and derived amount (quantity X column's price per unit) differences are displayed.  For example, for a column with the price per unit of 75, a base version with quantity 4 and a compare version with quantity 3, the Variance version will display 1 (4 - 3 = 1) and will also display the amount difference of 25 (variance quantity of 1 X price per unit of 25).

Date - For date column types, the difference between the base version and the compare version is displayed in days.  For example, if the base version is July 1, 2024 and the compare version is July 2, 2024, the Variance version will display 1 day.

Text - For text column types, the Variance version will display either "match" or "no match" depending on whether the cell contents match or not.
